WHAT IS A BED & BREAKFAST INN?
In our travels and our efforts to promote the Bed & Breakfast industry, we have encountered all types of establishments that are classified as B&Bs. We have personally visited hundreds of them and posted those reviews online.
So, if you are wondering what exactly makes a lodging establishment a bed & breakfast inn, here are our observations!
It is hard to discern what IS a bed & breakfast and at what level the lodging becomes a hotel. The bed & breakfast, from our original beliefs, was a person's home that became a place of refuge for the traveler. We have seen about every form of B&B possible and continue to be pleasantly surprised.....although we are still looking for one in a cave! They are worldwide and offer much more of an experience than mundane hotels.
Bed & Breakfast Inns can be found as boats, planes, logs, tepees, treehouses, ranches, Colonial homes, Victorian homes, missile silos, submarines, lighthouses, former churches, holistic retreats, cabins, cottages, carriage houses.......and everyday homes. All serve as temporary lodging for the traveler.
When making a reservation at an Inn, be sure to book early......this type of lodging has become very popular with vacationers and business travelers alike. We have found innkeepers to be charming, informed about their area and some of the nicest folks around!
